I've been wanting to post some pics of corncribs that we have on our farm. My Dad built the first one and I had the second one built. They hold about 2000 bushels a piece. Since we store the corn on a concrete floor we try to pick it pretty dry and sometimes we end up with more shelling of the corn then what is ideal but it is sure nice when you can load a gravity bed in about 10 minutes. I apologize for the pics they are from my new phone, I don't know how to rotate them if someone knows how please tell me!
Those are nice cribs. What moisture do u pick the corn at for it to keep? I the idea of being able to use a tractor to load corn. Does the concert go all the way down the barn? What do you do with all the ear corn
We don't have a moisture number to go by my Dad is 73 and has farmed his whole life he likes to take an ear and twist it, listen to the sound he says he can tell when it's ready by listening to it. I have also used a trick an old farmer told me of picking 5 ears by hand and throw them in water, if 3 float it's ready, I don't know about that one but I have tried it. I do know when we filled the cribs this year I shelled the rest and it tested 16.7% if that tells you anything. Yes the concrete goes all the way the cribs are 64' long by 16' wide. We usually feed one crib out to our calves and sell the rest, we also raise a few hogs to slaughter every year so we feed them too.
