I have a chance to buy a 237 picker with all the screens, has a 50 sheller, everything!! I am just curious as to what the entire package is worth? The current owner said all parts are there. Appears to be in excellent shape and has been shed kept. Currently running a #10 NI. Can you pick corn planted on 36" rows or do they have to be wider? Is it hard to find parts? I am just looking for some general info. about these pickers if anyone can help. Not many corn pickers in NC so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks
The literature for the 237 says it will pick corn in 38" to 44" rows so you would have to widen your rows a bit. If you can, borrow or purchase a brochure for these pickers. You can learn a lot about them from the brochure! I would also go to jdparts.com and print off parts pages for the 237 Picker. You probably don't need to print all of them but for sure the pages with the different mounting brackets for the tractors as well as mounting the sheller to the picker. Between the parts pages and the brochure you should have a pretty good idea if the unit is complete or not. I wouldn't trust anyone 100% when they say all the parts are there. The human mind has a way of forgetting things over the years!
As far as value, I guess you'll have to decide what you want to pay. If the unit is in really good shed-kept shape and is totally (or close to) complete, it's worth more than one you have to scrounge around the country for parts or mounting brackets. Most of these pickers were mounted on John Deere tractors, so if you are wanting to mount it on another brand, you will have to find different mounting brackets for your tractor (& mounting brackets to put a 237 on something besides a JD tractor are as scarce as hen's teeth!)
Hi the 237 my dad bought years ago was owned by a couple brothers who had it on a 460 or 560 and the mounts were the same for our 630 jd and I think those same mounts will fit also fit a 3010 -4020
Yes - the basic mount is the same for ALMOST all tractors but there are adapting parts to use these mounts on the different tractors. These are the hard parts to find. It's interesting, though - there is a different mounting that is used only for the AC D17 Series IV tractors OR mounting the picker on a John Deere tractor with the roll-gard & canopy. Just try and find those mounts!

Related to the money what has the market indicated something like this is worth? I have seen pull type two row pickers bring $1,500 and up and have heard the mounted pickers bring 600 or less. I am assuming $600 would be the most amount I would want to pay? The sheller attachment is throwing me off too when it comes to what it makes the total package worth? I feel the prices for two row mounted pickers do not include the sheller? I have purchased a JD manual for this picker and I will agree that this is a must. Like the idea about printing off the parts to compare with what is actually there.
The few I've seen for sale lately have been in the $400 to $600 range and I don't think any of them included shellers. I did not see any of these personally so I don't know what condition they were in but I'm willing to bet that they were not in as good of shape as the one you found. If it is as you described it and it is all complete, I would start around this range and go from there. Yes, these pickers are a collector's item (what old iron isn't these days?) but they are hard to move around, a lot of work to mount and usually require a lot of work (and coin) to get back into running condition. Even common items like bearings and chains add up in a hurry, and if you need actual JD parts for it to get it running, you have to hunt them down as most of them are no longer available from Deere.
Have you purchased them. I am interested in both pieces if you dont buy. I don know what they are worth. Please call if you dont want them or somthing doesnt work out I need the sheller and can use the picker if its good.Thanks Bud 660-631-5225 will travel.
