corn has been brown, most are combining now. I've a #11, in great shape to pick 10 acres of OP corn. I bet its close to 100 bushel corn. The problem is the morning glory vines and my #11 picker, do i wait till frost and the vines are stunted or go ahead and pick.
Welcome to the forum! What part of VA? We started shelling last night on the Eastern Shore of MD (Somerset Co.) and it's REAL dry. Ears are tiny, look like popcorn. Header loss is terrible. Crop Insurance adjuster estimated one farm at 11 bu./acre.
I'm picking OP corn, too. 140+ bu per acre, even with the drought (this was planted early). Morning glory vines are dry because of dry weather, and they're going right through my 324's rollers with no problems. Ear size is pretty good so I have the roller clearance wide. If it was set tight, I might have wrapping issues.
We're in Amelia, about 30 miles southwest of Richmond. Gonna try a few ears thru the picker humidity has been low and there is quite a dent in brittle kernels.
CUT A KERNAL IN TWO AND CHECK THE BLACK LAYER AT THE BOTTOM OF THE KERNAL. A DARK LAYER IS THERE IT SHOULD BE AROUND 20%,AND IT WILL KEEP. JUST DONT GET IN A HURRY UNLESS YOU WANT ALOT OF MOLDY CORN. IT IS ONLY SEPT. BILL
