Earlier this fall I mounted up my New Idea 319 gathering unit on my JD 2520, in preparation to fill the 2 cribs that I filled last year. To save space in the shed until I was ready to use it, I did not mount the husking bed on it right away. Soon after I had it ready to go I discovered that most of the corn this year had varying degrees of mold on it due to our wet and cold October weather. I didn't want to risk putting corn like this in a crib and having it go bad because of the mold. So I scrapped my plans for picking ear corn this year. But I didn't want the time I spent mounting the picker to go completely to waste so I got out the 315 sheller attachment for this picker and mounted it up. So these are the pictures my son took of our "fun" this fall - I used the picker-sheller to harvest a couple of acres I left stand just for this - did about 400 bushels of 27% moisture corn. It was slow going - between the wet corn, 190-200 bushel yield and a gas 2520 for power, I went in first gear to make sure I didn't overload anything. Enjoy!
Yeah, I know. I have a set of JD screens for the 3020/4020 but the ones for the 2510/2520 are different. New Idea made ones similar to the JD ones but I have never found a set of those yet.
I know what you mean, the 2510 ones are narrower, and there are two sizes for the 3010/4010 and 3020/4020 tractors. The smaller size is maybe 3 inches thick and the larger ones are perhaps 4 inches thick.
I started to use a set to put on my 4020 to be used when shredding, but there are spacers that are needed to make them fit in place of the side screens, and I lost interest.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Now I'll have to wait until the summer of 2011 for sure to get my shellers out and play with them. Hope I never see this wet fall/mold problem on the corn ever again!
