I been asking all the guys that have a 234 picker if they knew what year it was and no one knows and didn't know when they started building them.
What is the first year they were built? and last year?
Did they start the serial number at 501?
From the parts manual I know they had a serial number break on tall corn attachment at 6782 on inner gatherer shield and at 5767 on outer gatherer shield. Anyone shed any more light on the 234? Ron

The 150 Years of International Harvester book says they started making them in 1971. International Harvester built them until 1974 when they quit making corn pickers.

Thanks fergie40, I did see that in the 150 yrs. of IH and what has me scratching my head is that the 2MH and 2M-HD was built up to 1964, now that's 5 or 6 yrs without building a mounted picker.
If you look on Ebay they have some manuals listed for sale. The one person that has quite a few of them for sale has listed the dates they were published. The earliest date I saw was 1966. That was a manual to put it on an Oliver 1600. So unless they had the manuals printed at least 5 years before the pickers were available I would have to say 1965 or 66 would be a good guess.

Good ideal JB, I looked on my manuals and parts book and most are newer the 1967 and the newest parts catalog is 1974.
Early Decal with the McCormick still on the side of the picker
Later Decal, don't know what year the McCormick was drop, but I know I have 540 plows and some have the McCormick and some just have the International.
The early decal had BE CAREFUL and the later one had CAUTION but had the same warning.
A little differents in the Patented decal the early one has a few less patented numbers, but both have patented in 1961 at the bottom.
Mine's an early one also, serial number 2610 i believe. I'm starting to think about selling it though.....I dont know, it seems like it just sits in the corner. It's neat, cool to have, but i dont know if its worth it, and i really dont know what that and the '46 farmall M underneath it is worth as a package.
I have 234 picker that my dad and I bought in 1968 with a husking and and shelling unit. We had it on a 560D with fast hitch. We have not used it in 30+ years but has always been sheded and would kind of like to sell it.
Sent you a PM, but I am interested in the picker. PM or email me atucker@joink.com
