Will someone tell me what colors go where. My frame is rust color. The Bittersweet color, is that an orange? If so, why do they also list an orange? The Buff, is that the cream color on the wheels? How far off is Oliver Green from the Green? Thanks for your help.
Yes...the Bittersweet is the orange. The Buff is the cream as you refer to it on the wheels if you have to buy that elsewhere other than an AGCO dealer (i.e. hardware store) Almond would be the color you will want to buy New Idea green is somewhat darker than Oliver green. All the colors should be available from the nearest AGCO dealer. My dad repainted a 325 picker a few years back and that is what he used for paint. Hope this helps.
Minuteman ---- the picker frame/hitch tongue should be painted green. I am happy with using rust-oleum professional paint #7738 which they call hunter green. I have not been able to find a match for new idea bittersweet. Originally new idea used orange but changed to bittersweet (orange/redish) in the 70,s. thus making a possibility that your picker used orange not bittersweet. I have used xo-rust brand # xo-23 almond on wheel rims and find it very close to new idea buff. your ago dealer can get you any new idea paint colors but I have a difficult time paying their prices ,also I am not happy with the green they are marketing. good luck with your project!
Thanks Unifarmor. The AGCO dealer here is not the most helpful dealer, which that is why I looked at other tractors beside the Kubota and Massey Ferguson. That is the reason I have a John Deere tractor.
Maybe do some checking at a place where they sell DuPont or Martin-Seynor automotive-type paints. They may have the codes for mixing up the colors you need. Or maybe check with someone who restores and repaints a lot of farm equipment - they may know where to get these colors mixed up also. Remember that good-quality paint like this is not cheap either.......
Minuteman--- I suggested Rust-oleum brand because I pleased with the green color match and the cost per gallon. I agree that automotive paint is top value thus making for a supreme finish but is this needed on a cornpicker? I toured the New Idea-Coldwater manufacturing plant in the 70/80s and recall seeing pickers being painted at the end of assembly, not a supreme paint process at all. I have checked with my automotive paint store and found the price per gallon to much to be painting a corn picker. Go to your auto paint store and ask for a price on Dupont green #1317, please let me know what you find out. thanks for your response!
