MM Picker

A sale near me is selling a Minneapolis-Moline 83 corn picker.  Being I am not up on MM pickers would someone have some information and/or a picture?  Thanks.  Mike

I would imagine it is a H350 a later model Moline picker. I know of the one you are talking about and have been trying to buy it for 2 years now. I guess it is a bankruptcy auction and it is going to be on there. I plan on being in attendance! It should look alot like the one in my profile picture, a little different though in a few places

I was able to look at the picker this morning and it indeed is an 83.  It appears to be an Oliver painted yellow.  It appears to be a nice picker.   The snouts have some minor damage to them but a well placed rubber hammer should take care of that.  If I were an MM/Oliver man I would be interested in the picker.  Mike

I hope to look at it on the way home from Clarion, IA next week. Can you tell it was painted at one time or is it a factory paint job in yellow. Is there green showing through?

I didn't look at the picker real close but from what I could see it appeared to be yellow from day one.  The decals looked like Oliver style but it was yellow everywhere.  Mike

Thats odd, I will have to take a look at it next week. Like I say I have known about it for a couple years now but the guy wouldnt even let me come look at it. Now it is on the sale. I know alot about it but couldnt figure out why it had 83 decals on it and painted all yellow? Who knows when you are dealing with a confused company?

I was told the original owner sold it to another fellow.   The sale being held is a bank sale.  Mike

I looked at the corn picker again today and looked at the serial tag.  It indeed says H-350 on the tag and right above the tag a factory decal says "83".  So take your pick.  It looks more like an Oliver picker to me but I favor "the other green".  Mike

Interesting Mike. I have an 83  "green" wide row w/ 12 roll bed. Maybe someone at the dealer when new had some extra decals and slapped them on.

The decal looks like it was always there from the factory.  It looks like an Oliver 83 picker painted yellow with an MM tag on it.   Either way, it's a nice picker.  Mike

The picker is not coming to Illinois! Looking closer at it she needed ALOT of work before it was ready to run. Brought $870 which was alot more than I wanted to pay for one in its shape. Oh well! Thanks for the info Mike!

I was at the sale today and didn't get your message until tonight.  Both of the fellows bidding are guys I know and neither is a collector.  It appears the picker was bought to be used.  Sorry we didn't make connections.  I was there in brown coveralls with a plaid jacket and green hat.  Mike

Guess I didnt see you. Didnt even bid on it, I was leaning on the IH drill next to it watching it sell. At least it will get used and not just sitting around getting in worse shape. It was probably going to be ok to use for cattle but a little worse off for showing it off! I got to looking at it and it would have needed welded underneath before pulling it far, the elevator was about to fall off the back! I did like the matching Heider barge wagons though, just couldnt bring myself to bid on anything there!

How much did the Heider barge boxes go for? Were they 6x12 or 7x12? High sides? What types of gear? Always got a soft spot for a good barge box.

I can't remember for sure but I think both wagons sold in the $500 neighborhood.  I believe the Heider was a 7x12.  It was on a good, heavy gear.  I'm looking for a John Deere/Heider wagon with a John Deere running gear and John Deere hoist.  I already have the tractor and picker, elevator and wagon lift.  All I need now is the wagon for a full set.  Mike

You may have a soft spot for a good barge box, but all I ever find are boxes with soft spots. hmm

Mike, did you see my JD 7x12 on JD gear , but midwest hoist, at Old Threshers. I discovered last year on here that the box was made by Giant of Council Bluffs. I had always asumed it was a Hieder. Don

If I remember correctly, one of the wagons brought 625 and one brought 525. The boxes were identical I think they were 7x12 with short sides (2.5'?) and sideboards in poor shape. One was on an Electric 5026 gear and the other was on a Midwest gear, both had Midwest hoist under them. I liked the one with the Electric gear but had a little damage above the door in the back and was half full of feed yet so I could see the floor. The other was in pretty good shape, but still could bring myself to pay that and pull it 180 miles home!

Don, I did see your wagon at OT and it's very nice.  If Heider didn't make those wagons that company did a very good job of copying Heider's design.  Mike

I watched a 6x12 John Deere box on a Midwest running gear with a midwest hoist sell today on auction box in average shedded shape and the gear was loose 375 or 400 is what it brought
