"Corn Picker Reunion II" 10-10-10

On Nov. 1st, 2008 I invited friends to come to our small farm to pick corn. For fun I set aside 11 acres to be picked by 11 corn pickers. Max Armstrong's film crew heard about it and came out for the day. Later on, they came out with a DVD, "Corn Picker Reunion." I wasn't planning on having another corn picking day, but thanks to encouragment from friends, the film crew, and Max himself, I said I would do it again in the fall of 2010. I picked Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, for an easy date to remember, (10-10-10) and of course we will start at 10 a.m. A farmer friend from Michigan  is planning on bringing his 1909 IH ground-driven corn picker, so I thought we could show a progression of picking corn by hand, the 1909 IH picker and then up to the most modern 4-row Uni. I hope I can count on your help to fill in the gap of pickers from approximately the 1940s to the 1960s, and yes, the film crew will be back to film "Corn Picker Reunion II." More details to follow.  CornPickerBob

The Kansas State Corn Husking contest is looking for corn pickers to put on demostrations and show for the state contest and national contest for the weekend of October 15, 16 & 17. We are planning a antique tractor show/ride on the 15th with corn picking demos plan to show the progress of corn picking from corn husking and how the machines progress forward.

Along with the pickers we would like to have an antique tractor show/ride in the Oakley, KS community for this contest.

The Kansas State corn husking contest will be Saturday with a banquet to follow and the National contest will be held on Sunday October 17, 2010.

I would like any help possible to bring this together for this weekend.

Sorry, I didn't mention where our farm is at. We live NE of Sycamore IL 50 miles W of Chicago & about 35 miles SW of Rockford IL. Would love to have you and your picker here.

Any reunions still going on? I have been wrenching on my prototype 2M-HD, but it isn't even going to be able to pick my own corn yet again this year. Guess that is the stinky place to be when you are a back burner antique implement. At least it is in the shed.
