Today's brochure - late-model JD 237 Picker and New 300 Husker

Here's your next brochure - the John Deere 237 Mounted Picker and the 300 Husker in the same brochure! This is the last brochure on the 237 Mounted Picker - they were dropped from the line soon after this. I have the brochure previous to this one and that one still has the 50 Sheller listed - they had already dropped that from the line when this brochure was printed. I suppose that demand had dropped way off for these machines as well as the fact that they stopped making tractors that a mounted picker would fit on soon after this was printed. Notice that both pickers have a John Deere Co. barge wagon behind them. I also like the photo with the 237 mounted on a tractor with a Roll-Gard and canopy. It must work but there can't be a whole lot of extra room with the Roll-Gard frame plus the mounting brackets and drive in there - anyone out there every try this? The print number on this brochure is A-22-71-12. Enjoy!

I agree with you that the 237 with a Roll-Gard and canopy looks sharp and I do have a JD 3020 with a 237 picker but I see no place where there would be room on the axle for the Roll-Gard. I wonder if JD had some special brackets to make it fit, as I would love to add one on the 3020 & 237.

I think that mounting the picker on a tractor equipped with a Roll-Gard is the reason that the later 237's had the Multi-Luber banks mounted on top of the first elevators. The earlier ones had them mounted on the inside of the first elevators where they would be in the way.

I have already looked at the possibility of mounting my New Idea 319 picker on my 3020 with a Roll-Gard and canopy. Unless I would drastically alter the mounting brackets for the picker, it wouldn't work. Otherwise, I think the picker itself would fit around the Roll-Gard uprights with no problem.

OK guys, I am going to share one of my secret sites. Shhhhh... Don't tell anyone. I hope the links come out ok. Here is the link to John Deeres online parts manual for the 237:

http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/pdfs/PC0847.PDF

Here is the link for just about any parts manual for John Deere equipment. All you have to do is type in the model. You can also search for applications of part numbers:

  Enjoy,   Jesse

Yeah, I always keep forgetting to check that out. I'm still used to that site not having parts listings for older equipment, but now they do!

There were specific axle brackets and elevator rod brackets that needed to be used with a roll-gard.

Yes, I found it in my parts catalog - special mounting plates and elevator anchor braces used for Allis-Chalmers D-17 Series IV and tractors with Roll Gard canopy.

What year did production stop for these two pickers?

Does anyone know where to find serial number information [yearly number breaks] for John Deere corn pickers?  I guess information on other brands is fine too.

Does anybody know if the 237 picker could be mounted on a tricycle jd 4030 diesel? Or possibly a New Idea? I know where a 4030 tricycle can be had with only 3800 hours on it.

I don't think so - on the 30 series and newer open-station tractors the operator's platform and the fenders are all one unit - no way to get a mounted picker in there. It's not just a coincidence that Deere stopped selling the 237 picker around 1973 -  the Generation II Tractors were introduced in late August of 1972!

I don't think a guy could mount a picker on 3020 or 4020 built (1969 and new) with the side console could he? or am I wrong.

Yes they do if you have a late model 237 with the grease banks mounted on the top of the row units.

Hadn't thought about the fenders being in the way. That makes sense, though. Thanks!

Many years ago I mounted a 237 with the Multi-Luber banks mounted on the inside of the row units on my side-console 3020. It worked but there was very little clearance between the console and the lube bank on that side. In fact, while I was mounting it, the luber scratched the plastic top of the console, and those scars are still there today!
