Here is the brochure for my toy - the New Idea 319 Mounted Picker and attachments. I have all of the attachments for mine except for the 308 snapper hopper. Thanks for the New Idea brochure of the week. That sheller look like it would do a good job? and the the grinder with all it's attachment would be nice. I did enjoy the brochure!
Great brochure! We used to have a New Idea on our D-17. Cant remember what model exactly but we did have the husking bed and sheller. You could really fly with the husker but the sheller didnt have near the capacity, however the corn was perfectly clean!
I took a couple pictures this summer on a road trip me and wife took. I think this is a 319? Looked like a nice picker, didn't get to talk to anyone about it to find out if it was for sale or what mount it had.
That is a 305 Gathering Unit and it looks like either a 307 8-roll or 316 12-roll Husking Bed. Just a series older than mine. The biggest difference between a 305 and a 319 is that the 319 has sealed bearings on the upper end of the first elevators and the 305 had a small grease zerk bank on each side for these bearings. The steel around this area is galvanized on the 319 whereas the 305 has painted steel here. You can see this in the pictures I posted elsewhere of my picker-sheller in action. The 319's usually have the "Avco New Idea" emblem on them also - the 305 has the older emblems that just say "New Idea" on them. The only difference I can see between the 307/316 Husking Beds versus the newer 320/322 Husking Beds is that the newer ones have the flex-finger wheels above the husking bed - the older ones have the rubber flaps. They are so similar that the parts book lists them both together for parts - the only page that is split between the newer and older ones is the page for what I mentioned above.
The unit you took pictures of doesn't look too bad cosmetically - unless it has mechanical issues it looks like it could be a usable picker with some work.
Thanks!!! I really enjoy this forum and check it several times a day for updates. I have a NI 323 and just last weekend bought a wagon. This year I pulled a small trailer behind the picker, but it put too much weight on the back of the picker. I go next week to pick up a Haban PTO sheller.
Just last week I bought four JD 71 planters to plant my corn next year.
Hey Ron, I just noticed something in the background of the first picture you took of the NI mounted picker sitting on the dealers lot - is that yellow auger used for filling a hip roof grainery? (lol!)
