ih 1-pr

I just bought a ih 1-pr corn picker I do not know much about pickers. Can you guys tell me about this picker,
the year and if this is a good picker? I have to get it home yet has a flat tire probally have to heat lug nuts
to get tire off to fix. Still getting snow here in western n.y. going to warm up this week hopefully so I can get
it home.

Thanks for info,
Al McCullough

GREAT little pickers, especially for the price.  I have heard that the New Idea's had better one row pickers, but took more horsepower.  I have a 2-PR, and though I picked in horrid conditions with it I started to like it.  I have several 1-PR's sitting in the area, only a couple would be functionable again.  I saw a nice mechanical but VERY poor cosmetical 1-PR sell for 25 dollars once at auction.  One in great condition brings a good amount of change, if you can find them for sale.  I know of one that to this day remains the best I have ever seen, but the owner uses it every year and says he won't sell.  Bought new by that family and has never been out of the shed (besides to pick).

The 1-PR was built from 1951 to ??? and the serial number should be on the frame near the right wheel, behind and underneath the picker somewhere.  There is no tag on the older pickers, it is stamped in the frame, so if there is a thick repaint you may have to dig.  I thought I had more info on the 1-PR, it must be at home.  Good luck with your 1-PR, they're fun!!!
