Anybody picking corn yet?

Checked  my corn with the floating in water test and it's not quite dry enough yet. Thought I'd check in with you all. I'm sure chomping at the bit to try out the 323!

234 is oiled, greased and ready to go here in SE MN but last week we had 3.5+ inches of rain and had another 1.5 inches in the past couple days. Both good soaking rains. Beans are still being harvested here and I did see one guy opening up a field with his combine the other day. Haven't heard what the moisture is testing around here, can't believe the corn is ready to go just yet.

I'm planning to pick a couple loads next weekend. Still have around 55 acres of beans to get out. 4 plus inches of rain slowed everything down here.

I've done 4 loads this past week.  Moisture's still a little high for cribbing yet but OK for selling to the deer hunters right out of the wagons.

The recent rains hit us in SW Iowa as well, so fields are too muddy right now. I try to never cuss moisture, it will come in handy later. We had our first frost last night, so the last of the green will be gone from the beans and the corn. We are getting close, though.

I picked about a dozen loads of=r so on Saturday before we got more rain. It was testing around 22%

Pop and I picked 24 wagonloads from 10/25-10/29. We always have one "tough" day every year with breakdowns. This year it was the first day. Not a big deal--a paddle link on the cornsaver drag chain, and we have spares. Thank goodness for splice links. The doggone thing is hard enough to get out without having to crawl in there with a chain breaker! Has anyone else ever noticed that the easy-to-reach roller chains never break? Another day was interrupted by rain, and another day interrupted by snow. We still got a half-day of picking each day. We have fun picking together every year, but we are both glad we don't harvest the whole farm that way anymore. We used to do that when I was a kid. Now, we just pick enough to feed the cattle.

On Saturday, Nov. 11, I and some friends picked a small field out at Farmamerica, which is the Minnesota Agricultural Interpretive Center. We used an IH 1-PR, pulled by a John Deere A, and a 1950 New Idea no. 7, pulled by a Farmall H. The pickers worked well and a good time was had by all.

Those are some nice picker and tractor pictures! Just out of curiosity which picker do you think did a better job?

I was driving the John Deere, so was not there to unload the wagons and actually compare. But just from looking from a distance it looked about the same, as far as husking goes. It's possible the New Idea may have shelled a little more, since the husking rolls on that one are metal. But I can't really say that for sure.
