What kind of picker? Did it work before or is it one you're bringing back from the dead?

Can you move the elevator manually? Are all the shafts and idler sprockets free? Is one of the flights on the elevator caught on something? I guess those are things I'd look at first. I'd try turning it manually and if it doesn't move, then go looking for the reason.

We brought out a NI324/327 pull-type picker this year that didn't have many acres through it, but it had sat (mostly shedded) for a number of years. I bought it several years ago, but this was the first year we used it. We had to work through nearly every drive chain to find two dried-out sealed bearings. We replaced those, and it worked like a champ all harvest. It was tedious, but Pop and I took off one drive chain at a time, ran that section by hand, replaced the drive chain, and repeated the process over the whole picker.
