Shelling on corn head

Hey guys I run a new idea 325 with a 329 supersheller. I was wandering if anyone has any ideas on how to help with the corn shelling on the snapping rolls when harvesting. I usually harvest my corn between 17% to 22% moisture and depending on how it is it shells alot or shells a little.

Not a lot you can do about that. The drier the corn is at harvest, the worse the shelling gets. Some varieties are better than others, but about the time you keep records and remember which hybrids are better to use for harvesters with snapping rolls, the seed company drops that corn hybrid from their lineup!

Sometimes harvesting when the stalks are damp helps a little bit. But now you know one of the reasons corn harvesters now use stripper plates instead of bare snapping rolls......

Oh ok. I kind figured that it was cause the moisture and the certain types of corn.I just didn't know if you
could put something on the corn head near the snapping rolls to help it out.

When i get my new farm going i am going to try a couple of things. One on my old ni#7 welding a piece of metal so the ears wont get all of the way up at the top of the snapping rolls and sit there and shell. It will hit the angled metal and be pushed off into the hopper for the first elevator. 2. I 've wondered about welding in some kind of snapping plates. May not work but be interesting to try.

I thought a bout taking a 1 inch thick piece of rubber and bolting it on both sides of the snapping rolls so the corn can't touch it.
