Using a old combine as a stationary sheller

I bought a F2 Gleaner combine the other day just to save it from the scrapper. The tires are junk and I didn't get any heads but the rest of it seems pretty decent.

Since I don't have any heads and don't want to spend the money to put tires on it, I was planning on parting it out. Then I thought about me needing a better sheller because my old New Holland sheller doesn't work really well so I thought maybe I could just use the combine as a stationary sheller. Seems to me all I'd have to do is fab some sort of chute on the feederhouse to funnel the ears in and some way to keep the chaff from pilling up under the back.

Anybody ever done this or seen it done?

I wanted to shell app 200 bu of corn earlier this year but my old sheller was acting up. I end up using my JD 3300 combine, made a chute on the feeder house and used a short elevator in the back to move away the cobs and husk, it worked great. Good luck using your Gleaner, I hope it works well.

On youtube there is a guy i think in canada because everything seems french but he is using a N or R series gleaner as a stationary sheller.the name i thinlk is ferme something or other. check on you tube for picking corn. He has a fantasstic set up for ear corn ! a movable drag elevator that slides out hydraulically under a hopper wagon. Plus they use something that looks like a snow blower to empty the crib! Oh and the best part is the picker whether on his which is a 6 row or on down to a 2 row they all have a bin that dumps into the wagon or trucks hydraulically . No pulling wagons. The company even makes a pull type picker and it has the same hydraulicaly dumped bin on it!
