John Deere 227 corn picker mounted on an Allis Chalmers D17

Has anyone heard of a JD 227 corn picker being mounted on a Allis Chalmers D17? I have an opportunity to buy one but I would have to mount it on my D17. It would be a long drive to get it for no reason if I can't use it.

I'm not sure I remember seeing one, but I know it could be done with the later universal mounts. IIRC, there is a pic and instructions in the 237 book(the mounting would be nearly identical).

Check to be sure the picker has universal mounts and it can be made to work.  The easy way to know if you do have the universal mounting is to see if the picker is lifted with a remote cylinder.  If it lifts from the rockshaft it has dedicated mountings and while not impossible to mount, would be much more difficult.  Also, check to see if it is known what tractor the picker came off of.  Universal mounts will work with your tractor but there may be some dedicated parts around the rear axles that might have to be fabricated.  The operator's manual will have pictures and instructions on how to mount the picker on your tractor.  Mike
