the short gathering chains on a 325

hey all,    i'm in the process of rebuilding the short gathering chain gear boxes and bearings and all that good stuff  and i found out why the chains quit working. i had a bearing out of the gear box  and when i got to looking at it i noticed somebody couldnt get the bearing to stay in place so they welded it fast and now its out again and has wore the shaft down pretty bad..i located a parts picker and i wondered if it would be easier just to take the whole gear box out of it and swap it to mine or would i have any luck finding a new shaft somewhere??

There should be a ton of this model picker around for parts. I would just replace the entire gearbox and shaft as one unit - much easier.

I would not agree to install a used gearbox assembly with out a close inspection. If you rebuild your gearbox you would know exactly what you have.  not a pleasant place to revisit in the corn field.
