Make sure that the snapping rolls are not worn out i.e. all the edges rounded off. If some of them are rounded off you can build them up with a welder, but it's pretty hard to get it to do its job if everything is worn smooth. Same goes for the husking rolls in the husking bed - worn out rolls don't work very well.

Also, try to find one that has the correct mounts with it for the tractor you want to mount it on. There are a few extra mounts out there but depending on the tractor, they can be hard to find. (It does pay to ask on this board - many times someone has the set you want).

Do your best to verify that ALL mounting parts are with the unit you want to purchase - again, some of these parts are hard to find later. Turn everything you can with a wrench to make sure that it will turn - parts that are rusted tight are a bear to get loose again.

I have a complete parts catalog for this picker, including each set of mounts for different tractors, gathering unit and all of the rear processing units (sheller, husking beds, etc.). It's not for sale but I have scanned pages of it for others on this forum to help them with parts identification, re-assembly of components, etc. Send me a private message if you need help.

I also have one of these pickers in my shed yet as part of my collection as well as the 8-roll & 12-roll husking beds, sheller unit and grinder unit. I can take pictures of anything you want to see and e-mail them to you if needed - just send me a private message.

They were all called Superpickers. Didn't matter which husking bed it had. For $100 you can't go wrong - even if you find too many things wrong with it, it's worth that for parts! After I purchased my "good" picker, I ended up buying several after that for parts pickers just because the price was right. I sold a fair number of parts to different guys who frequent this forum and basically have nothing invested in the parts I still have left.

Another FYI for you (or anyone else on this forum): There are quite a few parts that the mounted pickers have in common with the 3-row Superpickers. So if anyone has a 3-row and is having trouble finding some used gathering unit parts for it, cross-reference the part numbers you need in a parts catalog for the mounted picker - you will probably find it there also. There were many more mounted pickers sold than 3-row units.
