Brought home another 237

Got another 237 brought home today. I've had trouble getting my first one to turn freely. I was told my first one had only sat outside about a year but it was probably longer because all the gathering chains and first elevator chains are froze up pretty stiff. So I went to look at another one and ended up bringing it home. I might end up using one for parts or I might just get both of them turning. The one I brought home today was always sitting inside a barn and just by tugging on them I could tell all the chains were free. It came with a pile of parts, an extra slip clutch and gear box for the wagon elevator, two snapping rolls, and a bunch of other stuff the guy had pulled off a parts 237 years ago. It also came with side screens for a 60, and radiator and side screens for a 3020/4020 as well as the draw bar extension for both. It's probably one of the last ones built as it has the 1968 deere logo on the front. My dad and I went to get it together. Mounted my sub frame on the 60 and hauled it down there. It was a chore getting everything to line up when mounting it as it had settled some over the years but with a few pry bars and a come along we got it on. Loaded the elevator in the bed of the truck and away we went. Here are a couple pics of loading the wagon elevator and the whole rig after stopping at a gas station.

I rebuilt my 237 last year. The gathering chains are not available but the chain is. A chain brake and some determination you can make your own using the existing ears on gathering chains n paddles on first elevator. Thanks for the nice pics

That's good to know, is the gathering chain size 60 like the drive chains?

I can look tomorrow n let ya know. The front sprockets on the gathering chains can be difficult to find also. I finally found 4 new ones but the other 2 I had to take to machine shop n have new bearings made into old sprockets

Looks like a great find especially with all the extra parts and gives you choices of what to put it on !!

I was also pleasantly surprised to find once I got home that this newest 237 has the optional wagon elevator extension to load taller wagons. I got everything unloaded and was looking at the two wagon elevators and one was longer than the other. That's when it hit me and I realized what I had.

I have inherited a JD 237 corn picker and the elevator that goes behind it and was wondering how much it is worth? It has been in a shed for over 20-25 years. The metal is in real good shape, the paint is original and great condition. I also have a JD 620. I am just trying to find out what they are worth.(ball park estimate is fine) Just trying to figure out a starting point. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

I'm no expert but they usually range from current scrap price to $1000. Then you figure in what it will take to make it field ready and you can land on a closer number. If it has extras like tractor radiator and engine screens, muffler guard or a super snoot that can also add value. Being 100% field ready is a plus too. However I've also heard someone say "it's worth what you pay for it"
