Corn Sheller and Picker Sheller

I bought a Minneapolis Moline model E corn sheller and a New Idea picker sheller last week on a consignment auction.  I was wondering what the minimum horsepower would be to run the model E sheller?

My literature says a 2-3 plow tractor will power it, I think a 3-4 plow tractor would be better.

Which New Idea picker-sheller did you get?

The one at Ahders sale by George. I got the sheller that morning and was going to pay for it and leave. I was just about to the building to pay and saw the auger of the picker sheller up above the hog feeders. I ended up staying longer than expected. I payed $250 for the picker sheller. Would an M Farmall work on the Minneapolis Moline sheller?

An M should run your model E just fine. Shelled a couple of cribs for a friend with the same pair.

How wet can you shell corn off the cob with the MM sheller? I was hoping to shell some this fall right out of the field. I want to use the cobs for bedding. If I can shell it would I have to put a bigger tractor on the sheller?

You should still have enough power to shell corn out of the field, unless its really wet. You will also have the problem of not getting all of the kernels shelled off all of the cobs (also because it's wet). If you are looking for some dry cobs for bedding, I'm shelling out two 1000 bushel cribs in the next few weeks. Bring over a wagon or two and you can have some for free. We're only 15-20 miles apart.

I knew it would probably go cheap since it is a picker sheller. People don't really want those anymore (except for us collectors). I really bought it for parts. I want to get the 325 picker sheller going and this had all the parts needed. I took the parts sheller off already and took most of the parts off that I need. I am going to put the 324 gathering unit with the 318 grinder. I am just about ready to put the grinder on but the 325 picker/sheller still needs to be put together. I can tell the sheller that I got for parts has been used. The shield that is over the chain that runs the auger is worn where the chain rubbed against it. Everything else is wore also.
